The George Washington University Thurston Hall dormitory renovation project in Washington, DC was a two-phased structural feat. The first phase focused on enhancing footings, walls, and replacing the basement-level slab. In phase two, the foundation work continued with infilling the decks around the courtyard where demolition took place from Level 1 to the roof. Shear walls were added at each corner of the courtyard, and new beams were installed in these areas. The courtyard was ultimately filled in with SOD at level 1, and some built-up topping on insulation was installed just north of the courtyard.
